Extinguish All Useless Lights

from Songs From A Chamber-Chris Cunningham by Chris Cunningham

about

This track and "Mountainsong" are two tracks culled from the many recordings of my group ¡Radiante!, which recorded and performed in the late 1980s.
The title and initial inspiration for the song comes from the 1927 Yves Tanguy painting, "The Extinction of all Useless Lights", shown here.

lyrics

Extinguish All Useless Lights by C. Cunningham

And if the sun stayed down now
and all around there was only night
And waterfalls from heaven would extinguish all useless light-
The light from your eyes would be all I need
to see the love you've given to me.

A thousand faces floating in the ice of my memories
are melting in the waters of this lover's sea, this lover's sea

Who turns the key that turns you on?
Who turns the key that turns you on?
If I do now, will you stay with me?
If I do now, will you stay with me?

The light from your eyes will be all I need
to see the love you've given to me.

A thousand faces floating in the ice of my memories
are melting in the waters of this lover's sea, this lover's sea
this lover's sea, this lover's sea

Who turns the key that turns you on?
Who turns the key that turns you on?
If I do now, will you stay with me?
If I do now, will you stay with me?

Who holds the key that turns you on?
Who turns the key that turns you on?
If I do now, will you stay with me?
If I do now, will you stay with me?

If I do now, will you stay with me?
If I do now, will you stay with me?

I'm in the lover's sea.
