about

Some of the sections of this piece were on an album by the great Nubian oud player Hamza El-Din that my parents gave me when I was 7; Al Oud, Hamza El-Din (Vanguard). It's only taken me some 53 years to figure out how to play this *#%*+(_#@! song. Hamza El-Din was educated in Italy in the 1950s and wrote this riff riding in a Venetian gondola. For those who care about such things, the first half is in 18/8, and the second half in 17/8. Hamza El-Din was and is still the ultimate guitar god to me.
